| Aboriginal artist - Peggy Griffiths |
|
Peggy was born at Newry Station where her parents worked. She moved to Ivanhoe Station then Argyle. She relocated to Kununurra with her husband Alan and both are well respected in the Community, for their artwork and their cultural participation. Peggy’s paintings are delicate in colour and style – almost “photo” quality. The incredible fine dotting is achieved by using minimal brush and unbelievable patience. When she walks, she “glides” – and that is exactly the way she paints. The “Doojum” country is her homeland and the focus of many of her paintings – particularly her “butterflies” in the wetland caves. Peggy has travelled and exhibited widely, is well-known Nationally both for her paintings and her printmaking. Together, Peggy and Alan are painters of the highest calibre. |
Boomerangs were not only used for hunting but to make music during Corroborees. Many Didgeridoo players would tap the boomer on the didgi whilst playing.
