Doreen Dixon Nakamarra |
![]() Doreen Dixon Nakamarra is a Walpiri woman from a famous painting family. Her domicile is the remote community of Willowra (Wirliyajarrayi), 250 km north-west of Alice Springs and 200 km from Yuendumu in the Northern Territory. She is closely related to International artist Janet Long Nakamarra and Mary Nabarula. The Nakamarra women have, since the beginning of the Australian Aboriginal Art Movement in Central and Western Desert regions, contributed greatly to the popularity of art from these areas. Aboriginal Art, being proudly country based, reflects the Dreamings, Culture, Traditions of the tribes in their particular part of the country. The Walpiri style of painting is distinctive, often rich and colourful and sometimes subtle and delicate, but inevitably precise and focuses on the all important food gathering in this harsh environment, together with the very necessary water courses and soakages (rockholes), the travels of the early tribes to communities and all aspects of the land fire, lightning, animal tracks and the broad horizon and sky under which they lived and on which they depended for direction. Doreens works include Bush Medicine, Womens Ceremonies and Bush Tucker Gathering. Her paintings depicting the Bush Damper Seed Dreaming in black and white filigree technique are breathtaking. Doreen is a Third Generation artist all the stories have been passed down to her and she undoubtedly possesses the talent to transpose her culture to canvas. An artist destined to succeed. |

I received Deanne Peters's work today in the post.
This is the first ever piece of art that I have bought let alone through the Internet.
I love it. I appreciated the opportunity to buy a piece that I work afford within my
budget and I think it is a great idea to produce smaller pieces.
Now I just have to start saving for another.

I received my beautiful Bush Leaves canvas by Jeannie Petyarre last week.
I bought it on a very rushed visit to Kununurra enroute from Warmun to Darwin.
The minute I saw it I knew it was what I had been looking for.
It is at the framers now for stretching onto a frame. I can not wait to hang it in my home.
Thank you so much for getting it to me in such good condition.
I'm so glad I popped into your gallery for what I said would be a "quick walk through.
Luckily my friend in Warmun had said "make sure you go to Artlandish".
Having had the opportunity to spend time in an indigenous community
I feel blessed to have such a beautiful artwork.
Please place me on your mailing list.
Best wishes
Sue
