Angelina Karadada

Angie_Karadada_Profile_Pic

Angelina is the youngest daughter of Lily and Jack Karadada and part of one of the most famous artistic families in Australia. Her mother Lily is an International artist and the best known of the Wandjina (rock art) painters. Angelina was born 15/05/67 in Kalumburu, Mitchell Plateau Far North East Western Australia. Angelina was educated in Derby and has two children – both boys and both born on 1st May - Roger in 1988 and Chubby (Junior) in 1990.

Angie commenced painting in her teens, under the close direction of her mother and elder brother Rosando (Rossi). In fact, all her brothers and sisters either paint or carve – three generations of the Karadada family are unbelievably talented.

She has travelled with her mother Interstate to paint for exhibitions – she enjoys travelling and has, like older sister Roslyn, a definitive and personal style. Whilst still taking direction from her mother, Angie’s depiction of the Wandjina is individual, with fine strokes and firm outlines, as she interprets the cave painting images and associated Dreamtime stories through her own eyes.

Angie’s carvings, both of wooden animals and amazing figures depicted on the magical boab nuts of the East Kimberley are avidly sought after because of the intricate and clever detailing of the imaging.
